Urofollitropin for Injection

UROTIV is a purified form of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) derived from the urine of postmenopausal women. It is primarily used in fertility treatments to stimulate the ovaries to produce eggs in women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies (ART) like in vitro fertilization (IVF). Here are the primary uses of urofollitropin for injection:

 1. Ovulation Induction in Women with Anovulation:

   - Anovulatory Infertility: Urofollitropin is used to induce ovulation in women who do not ovulate regularly (anovulation), which is a common cause of infertility. It stimulates the growth and development of ovarian follicles, leading to the release of mature eggs.

 2. Controlled Ovarian Hyperstimulation (COH) in Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART):

   - In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): Urofollitropin is a key component in the controlled ovarian hyperstimulation process used in IVF and other ART procedures. It helps stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs, which are then retrieved for fertilization outside the body.

   - Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): Urofollitropin may also be used in conjunction with intrauterine insemination, where it helps to optimize the number of eggs available for fertilization during the procedure.

 3. Treatment of Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism:

   - Hypogonadism: In some cases, urofollitropin may be used in women with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, a condition where the pituitary gland does not produce sufficient levels of FSH and luteinizing hormone (LH), leading to infertility.

 Key Considerations:

- Administration: Urofollitropin is administered via subcutaneous or intramuscular injection, usually as part of a carefully monitored treatment regimen. The dose and timing are tailored to the individual based on their response to the treatment.

- Monitoring: Treatment with urofollitropin requires close monitoring by a healthcare provider, including regular ultrasound examinations to assess the development of ovarian follicles and blood tests to measure hormone levels. This helps to minimize the risk of complications, such as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).

- Adverse Effects: Common side effects include injection site reactions, headache, abdominal pain, and bloating. Serious side effects include the risk of OHSS, multiple pregnancies (twins, triplets, etc.), and in rare cases, thromboembolic events (blood clots).

- Effectiveness: Urofollitropin is generally effective in stimulating ovulation and enhancing fertility, particularly when used in conjunction with other fertility treatments like human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is used to trigger the final maturation and release of the eggs.

UROTIV is a critical medication in the management of infertility, especially for women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies. It is used under the supervision of a fertility specialist to ensure safe and effective stimulation of the ovaries, with the goal of increasing the chances of successful conception.
