Sterile Water for Injection

STERVIT Injection is used for:

1. Dilution of Medications: It is primarily used as a diluent to reconstitute or dissolve medications that are administered via injection or infusion. Sterile Water for Injection provides a solvent for drugs that are supplied in powder form or in highly concentrated liquid form.

2. Preparation of IV Solutions: It is used to prepare intravenous (IV) solutions by diluting concentrated solutions or medications to the desired concentration for safe administration.

3. Wound Irrigation (in some cases): While not typically used alone for wound irrigation, Sterile Water for Injection can be used in certain cases to rinse or clean wounds, though it is often mixed with other agents for this purpose.

 Important Considerations:

- Not for Direct Injection: Sterile Water for Injection is hypotonic, meaning it does not contain any dissolved solutes like salts. It should never be injected directly into the bloodstream as it can cause hemolysis (rupture of red blood cells) due to the difference in osmotic pressure. It must always be mixed with a compatible solute (such as salts or glucose) before intravenous administration.

- Sterile and Non-Pyrogenic: It is produced under strict sterile conditions and is free from bacteria, endotoxins, and other pyrogens, making it safe for injection when used as directed.

 Mechanism of Action:

STERVIT for Injection itself has no pharmacological action. Its primary role is to serve as a vehicle or solvent for medications that need to be administered intravenously, intramuscularly, or subcutaneously.
