SODAVITAS injection is used for:
1. Seizure Management: It is used to treat various types of seizures, including generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal), absence (petit mal), and complex partial seizures, particularly when rapid control is required, and oral administration is not possible.
2. Status Epilepticus: Sodium Valproate injection is used in the emergency treatment of status epilepticus, a condition involving prolonged or repeated seizures without full recovery between episodes, which is a medical emergency.
3. Bipolar Disorder (Acute Mania): It can be used to manage acute manic episodes in patients with bipolar disorder, especially when a rapid onset of action is needed and oral medications are not suitable.
4. Prevention of Seizures in Surgery: It may be administered prophylactically to prevent seizures in patients undergoing neurosurgery or those at high risk of seizures due to other medical conditions.
Mechanism of Action:
SODAVITAS is an anticonvulsant that increases the levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain that reduces the excitability of neurons. It also inhibits sodium and T-type calcium channels, stabilizing the electrical activity of neurons and preventing the abnormal firing patterns that lead to seizures. This multifaceted action makes it effective in controlling various types of seizures and mood stabilization in bipolar disorder.
