Neostigmine Methylsulfate Injection

NEOTIV injection is used for:

1. Reversal of Neuromuscular Blockade: It is commonly used to reverse the effects of non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents (such as rocuronium or vecuronium) after surgical procedures. These agents are used during surgery to induce muscle relaxation, and Neostigmine helps restore normal muscle function by increasing acetylcholine levels at the neuromuscular junction.

2. Myasthenia Gravis: Neostigmine is used in the management of myasthenia gravis, a chronic autoimmune disorder that causes muscle weakness. It improves muscle strength by preventing the breakdown of acetylcholine, thus enhancing communication between nerves and muscles.

3. Postoperative Urinary Retention and Paralytic Ileus: Neostigmine can be used to treat postoperative urinary retention (difficulty in urinating) and paralytic ileus (temporary paralysis of the intestines). By increasing acetylcholine levels, it stimulates bladder and bowel muscles to contract, helping to restore normal function.

 Mechanism of Action:

Neostigmine works as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, blocking the enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine. This results in increased levels of acetylcholine at nerve endings, enhancing nerve-to-muscle communication, which is essential for muscle contraction.
