Ondansetron Injection

ONVITA Ondansetron injection is used for:

1. Prevention of Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting (CINV): Ondansetron is commonly administered before chemotherapy to prevent nausea and vomiting associated with cancer treatments.

2. Prevention of Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV): It is used to prevent nausea and vomiting after surgery, particularly in patients who are at high risk of these side effects.

3. Prevention of Radiation-Induced Nausea and Vomiting: Ondansetron can be used in patients receiving radiation therapy, especially in those undergoing total body irradiation or treatment of the abdomen.

4. Treatment of Severe Nausea and Vomiting: It can be used in emergency settings to treat acute, severe nausea and vomiting from various causes, including gastroenteritis or other medical conditions.

 Mechanism of Action:

Ondansetron is a selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the action of serotonin, a natural substance that can cause nausea and vomiting, particularly in the brain and the gastrointestinal tract. By inhibiting these receptors, ondansetron effectively prevents or reduces nausea and vomiting.
