PARACTIV injection is used for:
1. Management of Acute Pain: It is used to treat moderate to severe pain, particularly in situations where oral administration is not feasible or when a rapid onset of pain relief is required. This includes postoperative pain, pain from injuries, or other acute painful conditions.
2. Fever Reduction: Paracetamol injection is also used to reduce high fever in situations where oral or rectal administration is not possible.
3. Adjunct to Opioid Analgesics: It can be used as an adjunct to opioid analgesics in the management of severe pain, allowing for lower doses of opioids to be used, which can help reduce opioid-related side effects.
Mechanism of Action:
Paracetamol works by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins in the brain, which are chemicals that promote inflammation, pain, and fever. It has analgesic (pain-relieving) and antipyretic (fever-reducing) properties. Unlike NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), paracetamol does not have significant anti-inflammatory effects and has minimal gastrointestinal side effects.
