PHIYTOVIT(Vitamin K1) injection is used for:
1. Management of Vitamin K Deficiency: It is used to treat or prevent vitamin K deficiency, which can lead to bleeding disorders due to its role in the synthesis of clotting factors in the liver.
2. Reversal of Anticoagulant Therapy: Vitamin K1 is used to reverse the effects of anticoagulants (blood thinners) like warfarin in cases of bleeding or when rapid reversal is needed before surgery or invasive procedures.
3. Treatment of Neonatal Hemorrhagic Disease: It is administered to newborns to prevent or treat hemorrhagic disease of the newborn, a condition caused by inadequate levels of vitamin K that can lead to bleeding complications.
4. Support in Liver Disease: In patients with liver disease, where vitamin K absorption or utilization may be impaired, PHIYTOVIT is used to help ensure adequate levels of clotting factors.
Mechanism of Action:
PHIYTOVIT(Vitamin K1) is essential for the synthesis of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors (II, VII, IX, and X) and proteins involved in blood coagulation. It acts as a cofactor for the enzyme gamma-glutamyl carboxylase, which is necessary for the post-translational modification of these clotting factors. This modification allows them to bind calcium ions and become active, which is crucial for proper blood clotting.
